Ayurveda

“Good life and bad life, happy life and unhappy life, that which is beneficial or detrimental to life, the measure of life and its components
And life itself – Where all this is explained, that is called Ayurveda.”

Why Ayurveda?

Why Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is more than just a healing system – it is an invitation to truly reconnect with yourself.

From an Ayurvedic perspective, illness does not begin only when obvious symptoms appear, such as digestive issues, fatigue, intolerances, or pain. Rather, it manifests much earlier as a subtle imbalance, a slight disruption in your body’s natural rhythm. Ayurveda regards these early signals as a gentle warning from the body, indicating that change is needed.

If these signals go unnoticed, so-called toxins—known as Ama—can accumulate. These are residues from improperly digested food, unresolved emotions, or unprocessed experiences. Such metabolic toxins disrupt the natural flow of energy and are considered one of the primary causes of many modern ailments in Ayurveda.

Moreover, chronic stress, emotional strain, or unhealthy habits—whether related to breathing, diet, or rest—gradually weaken the body’s systems. Over time, this impairs the body’s innate ability to detoxify and regenerate.

Cleansing as a path to clarity

For this reason, regular purification of body and mind holds a central place in Ayurveda. This can take the form of tailored nutrition, oil massages, rituals, physical activity, or seasonal detox programs. Importantly, cleansing is not about deprivation but about restoring your connection to yourself—your inner balance, your natural metabolism, and your vital life force (Ojas).

Living in balance

Ayurveda encourages a conscious lifestyle aligned with your individual constitution, your daily routine, and the natural cycles around you. Rather than imposing strict rules, it follows the principle of balance through opposites: cooling counters heating; stabilizing calms agitation; dry phases require moisture. The essence of Ayurveda lies in this subtle interplay of the Gunas—the 20 fundamental qualities described in ten pairs of opposites.

About Ayurveda – An ancient science of life

Ayurveda – literally “the knowledge of life” – is far more than an alternative healing method. It is a deeply rooted, millennia-old system of medicine that views the human being in their totality: as body, mind, and soul in constant interaction with nature.

Its origins trace back over 5,000 years to the Vedic high culture of India. Passed down through generations by great healers, philosophers, and physicians, Ayurveda remains a cornerstone of medical practice in South and Southeast Asia – and is gaining increasing recognition across the globe.

One of Ayurveda’s most important classical texts is the Sushruta Samhita, written by the legendary physician Sushruta. This groundbreaking work is considered a milestone in the history of medicine, especially renowned for its comprehensive descriptions of surgical techniques, including:

  • Plastic surgery (e.g., nasal reconstruction, rhinoplasty)
  • Eye surgery and cataract removal
  • Wound care, fracture treatments, and amputations
  • Obstetrics and prenatal care
  • As well as detailed explanations of anatomy, pathology, herbal medicine, and sterilization methods

Ayurveda today – Globally recognized

Ayurveda’s holistic approach is increasingly acknowledged by international health institutions. The World Health Organization (WHO) officially recognizes Ayurveda as a traditional system of medicine. In its global strategy for traditional medicine, the WHO emphasizes the value of Ayurveda in integrative healthcare.

In India, Ayurveda is actively supported by the government and administered by the Ministry of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Sowa-Rigpa, and Homeopathy). The ministry oversees quality control, medical education, and international collaboration in traditional healing systems.

In Germany, too, Ayurveda is becoming increasingly established. The German Medical Association for Ayurveda Medicine (DÄGAM) has been advocating for decades for the scientific grounding of Ayurveda, the medical training of physicians, and clinical research. As a result, Ayurveda is gaining recognition within Western complementary therapies – from prevention and regeneration to chronic care.

A living system for modern times

Ayurveda is not a static tradition. It is a dynamic, living system that evolves with the times – without losing its roots. At its core is the human being: with their unique constitution, life phase, and surrounding environment.
Its goal is not merely to treat illness, but to preserve health – through conscious nutrition, detoxification, movement, herbal medicine, mental balance, and inner alignment.

At Moksha Ayurveda Mallorca, we see Ayurveda as a journey back to yourself. An invitation to feel more deeply into what you truly need. And a path toward holistic regeneration – supported by an experienced team, a nourishing environment, and the timeless wisdom of Ayurveda.
